ACCESS HAIR GOES ROAD TRIPPIN’!

On Sunday Oct 14th a very hungoverTroy and Nina drove to Canberra to attend an intensive full day cutting course with hairdresser to the stars Adam Noble. Adam has been a pioneer in education and training and a session styling superstar for over 25 years! Needless to say, we were very excited!
The course was organised by our lovely friends from our colour company Pravana and held at Adam’s salon Next Hair. Adam is a Pravana salon like us so it was great to work with him and his head colourist Emma to learn some amazing new techniques, particularly with the VIVIDS collection from Pravana which are the high fashion colour range and use shades like bright orange, blue and lavender. (for those of you who have seen me lately with lavender hair, now you know where we got the idea from!!!)
We each had to bring a hair model in for us to work on and we had to cut and colour the way that Adam and Emma instructed, not the way we would necessarily have executed it. For Troy and I who have combined experience of almost 25 years, it was very challenging to learn to cut in a totally different way and it was also nerve wracking to have Adam check every step of our haircuts to make sure every hair was projected at the correct angle. My model was cracking up laughing at me because I was STRESSING OUT that it wouldn’t be perfect or that he would tell me my cutting was lousy (not a good thing to hear as a salon owner!)
As it turned out, he was very impressed with both of us – phew – not that I was worried……!
We even managed to drum up some business for Adam and for us! Troy’s model Briony booked to have her hair done again at Adams salon and my model Justine was so happy with her hair that she’s coming to see me in Sydney at Access Hair! Yay!
I think as a stylist, it’s important to continually push myself out of my comfort zone, try new things and be open to new techniques and ideas because if I don’t, how will I ever get better? All in all, it was a very worthwhile trip, we learnt lots and came back revived and excited to start using all the new techniques that we had learnt!
